Firstly decide whether this is for fun / hobby or whether you want to create a lifestyle business / extra income for yourself. This important as the focus is quite different

If it is to make money consider your USP (unique selling proposition). What is it you want to write about, and is it something that interests your and or that you’re passionate about. If it’s not getting a regular job with a boss might honestly be a better option. Building a blog to generate income takes grate and determination, but it’s at least do-able.

2. Choose your niche. While you can choose almost anything to produce content on the most popular areas are as follows:

Most profitable blogging niches:

  1. Money

  2. Financial Guidance

  3. Investing

  4. Lifestyle/Influencer

  5. Health and Fitness

  6. Fashion

  7. Recipes and Food

  8. Pets

  9. Travel

  10. Parenting

If you’ve chosen a niche you know something about as you publish to such platforms as Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter your audience can help you decide by checking in on your KPI’s (key performance indicators). Don’t stress this, it’s all taken care of automatically by more on that later.

3. Choose a domain name.

What’s this you say? Think of it as your address on the internet. By one here is “sattvacreative.com, another site I have is wellnessmyway.blog. The name you pick has to be unique and is followed by a domain extension (.com, .com.au,.blog…). If you were focusing on a country specific market you could choose that. Eg if you picked a niche thatwas only relevant to say Australia you could simple use the .com.au extension. In my two cases I wanted to reach a broader audience than just Australia so I went for both the .com and .com.au extensions. For wellnessmyway I picked .blog as it is a newer extension with the name still available, it was also appealing because it reflected the fact that it is a blog and is international. Trying to go for a name that relates to the area you want to write about is both hard and not necessary. Google (lords of the internet lol) and stated your content is ranked on it’s worth as content, not on the relevance to your domain name. In a nutshell you need to focus on producing great content, not on your domain name.

The easiest was to do this is to use a service such as godaddy and search for the name you are after

Setting up your hosting

This is where your website is parked. The company I personally use is called siteground.com
